Boundary conditions on elements Empty Boundary conditions on elements

Hi everybody,

I have a question about boundary conditions on members (end pinned or built in). What does it means END1 pinned (internally)? to the joint?

For example if I must model a multistory building where the beams in one case have hinged connessions to the columns I have the necessity to introduce little appendix to the columns (for example 2mm length) and on them introduce the connections to the beams.

Is it a correct way? Because if I connect directly the beams to the columns in the model with pinned endd I have problems (for example the moment at the end of the beams is not zero).

Thanks

Funny behaviour, Ipin>0 should give you zero moment at the end of the member.
If you find strange results with IPIN=1 or 2 I would actually use IPIN=0 (built in connection), and give an extremely low yield moment to the beam.. that should do the job without adding other elements/appendix/etc.
